Sailing Clinic June 13

Unfortunately St. Mary's regatta was cancelled due to high water flooding the club site.  An invite to Newell Sailing Club to make up for the cancellation didn't result in any out of town competitors attending this impromptu clinic.  Too bad for them as the winds served up some fantastic sailing conditions for the 5 Newell Sailing Club members who did show up.  John Cormack and Larry VanPypen set up a simple race course and about 4 races were completed.   Before the racing started for some of us, a couple of hours of sailing the lake served up some invigorating sometimes wild ride with hull flying gusts and great downwind runs.  The gusts, never overpowering allowed for fully powered up runs and beats.  Truly a lot of fun.  We had to stop a little bit early due to possible lightning strikes and very high wind gust potential.  After the day I for one was truly sailed out and will remember this day for a while.  There were three seaspray and one nacra catamarans and one byte sailboat.
