Newell Sailing Club Spring Newsletter

Thanks to all the members who showed up for the May 3rd Club Preparation Social. The club facility and some of the grounds works was completed. The weather warmed up enough for some outside jobs to be completed. The potluck supper was outstanding as well and the desserts outlasted the appetites.

Highlights from the executive meeting.

The new stove for the main hall was installed and the new fridge for the members room was installed as well. The laptop to be purchased for club records and regatta work has been put on hold until further pricing and program requirements are worked out. No club opti’s have been sold as of yet. A comprehensive list of club and member equipment for sale will be compiled and emailed out to the membership. If you have something sailing related to sell let us know and send a picture or two plus asking price to help make the ad appealing. There were no changes to the membership fees at the AGM but just a reminder that for returning members your club dues are due by June 15. Please download and fill out the membership form and with your payment return it by mail or drop off to the one of the club’s executive or the club treasurer. The Juniors equipment shed is still in the planning stages at the moment. We are waiting for drier conditions to start on the finishing touches to the landscaping project in the Northwest corner of the club grounds. Our regatta may be somewhat smaller in numbers this year so the executive would like to encourage our membership to enter the regatta to help bolster the entries. Pricing estimates for a chain link fence to replace the wooden snow fencing is being sought. The ASA will run a two day clinic before the Prairie Wind Regatta this summer.

Our Commodore mentioned that he will be at the club this Sunday and to remind everyone the sailing season has begun. With the warmer weather it certainly has been pleasant enough to go out. If you are bringing your boat to the lake the following stalls have been spoken for, #10 and #3. If the stalls are occupied they will become open if the club membership is not renewed by June 15th. All forms and membership information is on the web site

Thanks to Mike Sonnie building and Dave Mills helping to install the new boat racks that are at the club. We will have plenty of space for smaller dinghy’s, lasers, optis, bytes, etc.
